Wells

As we continued on our venture to Wells to see another Cathedral, we found the countryside magnificent and the roads weren't too bad.  Wells is another 13th century cathedral, but looks much more contemporary in architecture.  We really liked this one as well.

Dan liked this church a lot.  I think he wants to convert.

Going To Bath

The roads from Wells to Bath were tiny at best.  Dan says they are too small for bicycles to pass each other, let alone cars.   With only one lane, winding up and down hills, and tall hedges or trees on both sides, our frustration grew as we frequently had to stop to let cars go through coming from the other direction.    In addition, we either missed signs or the gps misguided us as we found ourselves lost a few times.

Every now and then we would pass through a tiny village that didn't even make it on the map.  Since I was the passenger, I got to enjoy these villages more than Dan.   I love stone houses and thatched roofs that probably look the same as they did a hundred or even two hundred years ago.  We certainly don't have anything like this in America, at least not anywhere that I have been.

Dan did an excellent job of getting us to Bath safely, though he was not happy along the way.   By the time we got to Bath, we were both tired and a little grumpy.  It didn't help matters that the B & B we were supposed to go to had no address and its only sign was covered by a parked truck.  We drove around for quite a while trying to find this one.    By that time, it was too late to get into the city center to see the sites of Bath.

When we woke up this morning, we decided to forget about Bath and move on to other things.  Thus our trip to LaCock Abbey and Slimbridge Bird Sanctuary.  More stories to tell about this later.

No Bath today? I hope it is not as hot there as it is here (101 in the shade). Love, JC

Ahhhh....I hate those types of driving experiences! Glad you are with Dan; Rich and I would have TWO cars by now, or one of us returning home :-)

The pictures of the cathedral were amazing. I want to go there, too...
